Hey Kids, Juvenile Delinquency!

sg
This is a mailer being sent around by prospective Democratic Nancy King, who is running for State Senator in Maryland. I think it pretty much speaks for itself.

Its simply amazing to me that, in 2010 for Rao's Sake, we still have people demagoging comic books, as if they the pave the road to juvenile delinquency. Look at that--a kid reading Superman! Horrors!

I discovered this on the website of artist Dean Trippe, who wrote an eloquent response to Ms. King. I don't think it will make her change her views, but you never know...

Yes, because as we all know you won't get anywhere if you read comics. All you can ever hope to be is PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

Some folks will always be ignorant no matter what you do or say. This "lady" sounds like one of these folks. I'm afraid these things have a way of taking a life on of their own. The next thing you know your local library that carried graphic novels and trade paperbacks is no longer doing either. Hopefully her political career will be a short one.

Considering the average comic costs between 3 and 4 bucks (!), and the only way to ever find them is to drive to a specialty shop, which costs gas money, I can only assume Ms. King is suggesting that laying off teachers will boost the incomes of American families to the point where kids can enjoy this otherwise prohibitively costly hobby.

So, there you have it; fire the teachers, enjoy more spending power. And don't worry about your kids, because as the photo proves they can still read even without teachers. It's a win-win!
